As my dad always said, proper preparation prevents piss poor performance. In other words, take some time out of your day to visit the newly released Borderlands 2 skill point calculator and figure out how best to assign 50 levels of glorious skill point madness. That link is for the siren’s skill point calculator, but there are links at the bottom of the page for every character class.
Now, I know that you may be confused as to all of the options, so I’m going to make it easy for you. These are, in no uncertain terms, the things you should be most concerned with:
- Keeping me alive
- Reviving me
- Killing those that would prevent the previous two points
Now, if you’re playing a Commando and you want to roll with Team Binky, I better see not one, but two saber turrets drop when you call ‘em forth. They also better have rockets and they better be magnetic. If they don’t, go back home and don’t come back until you can spec your character properly.
Me, I’m having a hard time deciding if I want to do more damage and cause neat things like explosions and elemental damage when I phaselock someone, or if I should focus on more healing oriented skills. Seeing how I tend to rush into battle in a desperate effort to collect every bullet fired in Pandora and store them in my liver, I’m thinking healing might be the better choice. Then again, if there are no enemies to shoot me, what need do I have for healing?
Decisions, decisions!

Gotta tell you… the Assassin skill tree is *very* interesting. I’m definitely intrigued. I really liked the Siren in the first game, but I guess I’ll just have to go with Assassin in Borderlands 2.
Cool as it is, though, it’s still not enough to make me buy the game on release. If I could play with Mister Binky, I might change my mind. But Mister Binky would never play Borderlands 2 on the PC, so… yeah.
Mister Binky’s laptop is held together with spit and baling wire. Hell, Inquisitor makes it run so hot that it almost sets my ottoman on fire. Sorry we can’t roll together. You haven’t played Borderlands until you’ve pulled my behind out of the fire multiple times.
Yeah, I’d certainly like to play with you and Bill. And Todd too, but only because Borderlands 2 has no friendly fire.
The Zerker even has some tanking options, i’m really enjoying the MMO/RPG nods that they have successfully worked into the game. But to be fair, I really want to see that nuke go off more so than x2 turrets. To quote a friend in Diablo 3, “Why do i use Zombie bears? It’s Zombie, BEARS. Angry decaying stampeding ursine!” So boom goes the dynamite.
Also the idea of having a mid-tier talent ability, so you can spec into two talent trees. Cool.
My friend and I are on the fence about our skill trees. He’s going Salvador, I’m going Axton. We’ve basically determined that, due to both classes having skill trees that focus on going in guns blazing and drawing a lot of attention, one of us needs to focus on defense so they can revive the other. Originally, we were going to go with the dynamic that worked for us in BL1 – he would do most of the damage, while I provided support. However, My friend simply can’t *not* go with the skill tree that has the “Come at Me, Bro,” ability (where Salvador flips off everyone), and that’s down the Brawn path, which is survival oriented. In order to compliment this, I’ll be trying out the Guerrilla tree and upgrading my Sabre Turret as much as I can.
Our rough plan is that while my friend distracts them, I go into a flanking position and start wrecking them with a double-barrel turret that fires Slag rounds and rocket volleys. At least, that’s the plan. Our plans in Borderlands 1 had a tendency to go to shit, which generally resulted in “OH FUCK ME” moments, so it should be hilarious either way.
Super Excited for this game. Last time me and three amigos poured hundreds of hours into this game. Don’t know what it was but this game gets its hooks into me so much easier than Diablo III. In fact after playing Diablo I always want to head back to borderlands…
