Jumping the Shark #158 features Bill’s initial steps into the 15-play marathon that is Risk: Legacy, the only boardgame I’ve ever heard of that comes with an expiration date (sort of). I also talk cardboard bits this week, having introduced my family to King of Tokyo, Dungeon, and Survive: Escape From Atlantis. All three were big hits in the Brakke household and you’ll want to know all about that. Brandon carries the torch for actual video games, continuing his freewheeling ways with Need for Speed: Most Wanted and digging deeper into Revolutionary War conspiracy with Assassin’s Creed III. Finally, we wrap up with a lengthy discussion about The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey that sees Bill and I agree on virtually all the finer points, while coming to completely different conclusions.

Enjoy!

Hey, I’m probably one of the silent listeners that you all mentioned this episode–I definitely listen every week! I honestly don’t mind the slower pace you all have adjusted to regarding your ability to discover new games. Also loving the board game commentary the last few episodes.

Also, Re: The Hobbit, I agree that the critics that liked Jackson’s LOTR films don’t really have two legs to stand on criticizing The Hobbit–I think that even if he’s not re-inventing the wheel with this film, it’s actually a more refined vision in the same vein as the others. Also, the slow pacing doesn’t bother me!

Agreed. The slow pacing didn’t bother me, but I’m talking head kind of guy. The needless action scenes and chases I tend to find more boring when they’re clearly there to keep the audience from getting bored.

I’m a weekly listener that get’s excited every time the podcast shows up on Sunday night – I hold you guys in such esteem as the QT3 and GWJ podcast, but I’d probably complain louder if you missed an episode than either of those two.

I hope you guys keep on going, no matter what your interest in games becomes in the future. Go Brandon for still playing video games like I attempt to do, and ‘yay’ for Todd and Bill for being busy like I am and not having that much time for games on a daily basis.

Congratulations on 158 episodes and I hope for even more future episodes than another 158!

Oh, the podcast isn’t going anywhere. We like flapping our gums too much to not keep that rolling. On to episode #200! :)

Count me among the people hoping for more weekly updates of the Risk Factions campaign. I can totally see where Baroo is coming from: it’s hard to imagine shredding up pieces of the game and inflicting my awful crayon-fisted handwriting directly on the board.

I’d love to see photographs of the map as it evolves!

Same goes for Todd’s Pathfinder campaign, though I know he said they only play about once per quarter. I’ve played a whole bunch of 4th Edition but I only have a vague idea of what Pathfinder is like.

Our next Pathfinder session is the 26th (shooting for monthly), so hopefully I’ll have an update on that one the following week.
