One to Watch: Fray Revealed

Well, hello there Fray!

I love days like this when I am surprised by a game. Today, Gamespot previewed a new simultaneous move, turn-based strategy game called Fray. In the preview, which you can read here, writer Maxwell McGee also mentions this game and X-COM in the same sentence. Want to get my attention?

Mission accomplished, sir.

After going to the game’s somewhat paltry website it also sounds, at least this is how I am reading it, like it might even have some classic Syndicate in it, too. We have now gone from genuine excitement to “I need to call the PR rep.” This is about as excited as I get about a new game so take a picture, folks. I’ll have more on this as soon as I can.

  1. More like: “Mission X-COMplished, sir.!”. oooo, the pope will X-COMunicate me because of that pun and because I used to be a Communist (wait for it) but now I am an ex comrade.

    Curious about this too.

  2. Interesting. Seems to share a lot with Frozen Synapse.

Something to keep an eye on, definitely.

And is it me, or is the strategy genre getting stronger every year? Slim, slick, deep games. Starts to contrast a lot with first person shooters.

  3. For those of you who haven’t seen this, there’s an international indie team working on an X-Com remake called Xenonauts. Usually, I’m pretty skeptical of projects like this, but they’ve shown some cool UI stuff so far and seem to be making good progress.
