These Are a Few of Kotaku’s Favorite Things

No High Scores

Kotaku put up a list of their favorite gaming blogs today and I have to say, it’s a pretty good list. Sites like RPS, Brainy Gamer, KillScreen and Quarter to Three all made the list as well as 16 other fine bastions of gaming wordsmith. We’re not on it, but hey, it’s only been like, a month. I do like how they asked the people in charge of the sites to write up a description of the sites themselves. Apparently all of Kotaku is too enamored with the 3DS to tell you in their own words why they like the sites they’re telling you they like. With comments like this, I’m sure we’ll be added to that list any minute now.

Brandon

Brandon loves games, which shouldn't be a surprise given where you're reading this. He has written for GameShark, The Escapist and G4, and made them all less relevant as a result.

  1. Takes time to get word out, even with big sites linking you guys like penny arcade. I think a post in the kotaku comment section is warranted. I think when people find NHS they’ll like it as much as we do.

That is a decent list, though. Some of that I think is crap, but they did list Qt3, RPS, and Gamasutra.

  2. I don’t like gaming blogs that have “stories” about cosplay pictures and fan art, are riddled with memes,or have forums filled with one-line zingers instead of actual discussion.

This rules out…well, almost all of them.

  3. Now now sir. . . I don’t think Brainy Gamer has any of those things, but yea you might be right about the rest. I have to wonder about the list though since they shot themselves in the foot with the atrocious redesign. It’s kinda like ‘Hey the 10% of you left well we’re about to shut the doors, so check out these other places were our writers will be asking for jobs at soon.’

  4. Many of those don’t do that. Mike’s just perpetually angry which is USUALLY my bag but I gladly pass the torch to him.

Quarter to Three is about as adult a place as you’ll find to discuss gaming. Highly recommended.

  5. And I will carry Abner’s Torch of Anger gladly.

There are plenty of good gaming blogs- Quarter to Three, Brainy Gamer, RPS, Play This Thing…none of those fall under my admonition. There’s usually good stuff on all of those, smart talk and good discussion. It’s really just about three that are the worst offenders…but I still look at them every day, like a freaking masochist.

One of them has angry discussion today about how Crysis 2 on the PC says “press start” on its opening screen which means its “consolized” and panties are bunched. And I’m pretty sure there are some cosplay pictures and talk about Japanese bikini models, possibly some Mega Man fan art.

    (throws up)
