Calendar Man – Week of 7/25

No High Scores

Woohoo! Back from Chicago! Ready to tear up the games writing thing! Chicago was good, but terribly, terribly hot. When coming home to Atlanta in July means coming home to a cooler climate, you know you’ve been some place hot. Not a lot on the new releases front this week as the summer doldrums continue. Sure, Catherine finally sees the light of day in North America and while I appreciate that the game tackles a subject not normally seen in gaming, namely fear of commitment, but I’m 39 years old and have been married since I was 24 to a woman I’ve been with since I was 19. Commitment isn’t something I’m afraid of. I am afraid of sheep though. Their slit eyes are unsettling.

The other release is some Pac-Man and Galaga compilation for the 3DS. Oh look, Nintendo isn’t the only publisher that sees fit to rehash existing games for the 3DS. I can’t tell you how happy I am that I spent 250 bucks on this thing. On to the games!

New Releases
Yeah, so Catherine. I wouldn’t mind renting this one just to see what it’s all about. There’s still a month or or so before things really start heating up, so maybe I’ll throw it in my queue. It will be interesting to see if people are at all disappointed that the game isn’t some soft-core porn gaming simulator, as the marketing kind of tarts the game up a bit. I guess that’s what reviews are for, dashing the hopes of sexually frustrated people everywhere.

Oh look more things for the Sims with The Sims 3: Town Life Stuff. This one has new venues and lots. Can’t wait for the SimBuilder to go out of business, leaving your Sim Housing Development half finished with SimTumbleweeds blowing through your half finished SimPool at the SimClubHouse. Also, dealing with HOA covenants in Simlish ought to be a hoot.

Finally, Pac-Man and Galaga Dimensions is out. I’m going to take my 3DS in the corner and cry.

Brandon

Brandon loves games, which shouldn't be a surprise given where you're reading this. He has written for GameShark, The Escapist and G4, and made them all less relevant as a result.
