It’s Deus Ex week! Woo-hoo! At this point, I have no idea if the game is any good, but I have preordered it all the same. What can I say? I’m a sucker for nostalgia. Granted, the early print reviews have been good, but without a much larger sample size, it’s hard to say. Plus, I don’t trust scores if I can’t read the text that goes along with them. Crazy, I know, but how else will I know if the game is worth 60 dollars, or should be priced a more reasonable 40?
Ho ho, ha ha. It is to laugh.
On to the games…
As mentioned, Deus Ex: Human Revolution comes out this week. Of all of the augments I’ve seen so far, the best one looks like the automatic sunglasses. Ever since I had my LASIK surgery over ten years ago, my eyes have been sensitive to light. Being able to touch my temple and have sweet, stylish relief would be awesome. A giant, retractable arm blade is a close second, if only for opening canned goods.
I’m trying to decide if I want to play my usual stealthy hacker or try to go in guns a blazin’. From what I’ve read of folks that are reviewing the game, it sounds like the game somewhat forces stealth on you at the beginning, but who knows. Playing a huge game like this on a deadline is going to force the easiest path on you, so it’s hard to say. In some ways, a need for stealth early on makes sense, especially if you don’t have too many augments. If you could massacre an entire police station from jump, that doesn’t give a lot of room for improvement.
The only other release of note this week is Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked for the 3DS. This is a remake of the DS version although a bunch of goodies have been added including fully voiced dialog and additional endings. It’s demontastic!
