The Most Pirated Game of 2011

TorrentFreak is a weblog dedicated to bringing the latest news about BitTorrent and everything that is closely related to this popular filesharing protocol. We are not a news aggregator, but focus on unique and fresh stories. TorrentFreak is where news and filesharing collide. We try to be the source of all the latest breaking news in the p2p world.

Anyway.

The point here is that Crysis 2 was pirated like no other game in 2011. Something like four million downloads. That’s more than Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, etc.

I was going to say something about DRM but I think the story sort of sells itself.

The bit from this story I found interesting:

Surprisingly, Wii titles seemed to suffer more from illegal online piracy than Xbox 360. The most pirated Wii title was Super Mario Galaxy 2, which suffered 1,280,000 downloads – almost 400k more than Gears of War 3.

  1. From what I understand, hacking the Wii to play pirated games seems to be a much easier process than hacking a PS3 or a 360, which probably accounts for the higher number of illegal downloads of Wii games.

  2. That… that disk pictured doesn’t have a hole in the middle. No WONDER people pirate it. If you tried to use that disk, you’d just get a Disk Read Malfunction.
