Blizzard has unveiled its global release date for Diablo III on PC and Mac which if you read the title header up there you know is May 15th, 2012.
“After many years of hard work by our development team and months of beta testing by hundreds of thousands of dedicated players around the world, we’re now in the homestretch,” said Blizzard chief Mike Morhaime. “We look forward to putting the final polish on Diablo III over the next two months and delivering the ultimate action-RPG experience to gamers worldwide starting on May 15.”
So there you have it. By releasing the game on May 15th, Max Payne just wet himself, A Game of Thrones just leaped off The Wall and The Witcher said, “Whew” before bedding a street hooker.
It begins!
On a more serious note, I’m curious to see how this holds up. I think Starcraft II kind of got a free pass by virtue of a legion of fans merely wanting an engine update to their beloved esport. However, to call the game conservative would be an understatement.
Blizzard has really been resting on their laurels for the past five years and I’m wondering if this is the game that goes from polished and familiar to just stale in the public mind. Diablo III’s great challenge is of course that there have been so many great imitators of it’s formula between Diablo II and now. Not the least of which, in many ways, was it’s own behemoth, WoW.
Of course, we’ll never know the truth until after we’ve all bought it for ourselves, as the names Diablo and Blizzard turn reviewers into starry eyed fanboys incapable of maintaining a critical eye.
I agree. Playing Diablo II was fun, but after so many hours you get really tired of it. I’m not really excited about the auctions and stuff, mostly because there will be way too much loot and therefore way too much scouring the corners of every map. Gonna get the Witcher 2 this Summer and enjoy me a sweet narrative.
Let me know when Torchlight 2 drops.
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting this to be available until late summer or fall.
Pretty sure way way back right here on this very page like a year and a half ago. I stated that Diablo3 was going to be released Jun 2012. I was sharply judged for this date as it seemed to be an eternity.
I pronounce myself correct.
Correct?
Hey Mike this isn’t horseshoes OR hand-grenades.
May isn’t June! You were clearly wrong, wrong wrong!
