Well I for one am shocked.
There are multiple reports on forums and in chat rooms and on my Google Chat screen about Diablo 3 users seeing their accounts hacked, their items stolen and money plundered or even their entire accounts hijacked. It’s like the old days when your ICQ account would no longer work. Poof.
Of all of the reports, aside from a few friends of mine falling prey to this, the most damming comes from Eurogamer, complete with chat screenshots.
Ok show of hands — who is ready for the Real Money Auction House! Woo hoo!
I bid a dime.
Obviously everyone should change your password ASAP if you haven’t already done so.
Also use the authenticator.
The prevailing theory at the moment is that session id tokens are being captured from public games allowing the bad guys to bypass both the password and authentication.
It’s probably a good idea to stay out of public games for the time being, and check your friends list for any new “friends” that you didn’t specifically add.
The Blizzard forums are reporting that they are investigating the issue and will have an announcement sometime later today.
Bypassing the authenticator is a pretty scary idea.
If that I bid a dime line was a Cuckoos Nest reference, very well played sir.
If not, it should have been.
Never a bad time for a Devito reference.
Yeah, as i told you ingame, my friend’s account got hacked, he got his item back. These were the Blizzard’s conditions:
– He won’t have access to the Real Money AH, unless he gets an authenticator (fair enough).
– If he gets hacked and request another restore he won’t have acces to the Real Money AH permanently.
I’d like to take this opp to say:
SCREW the Real Money AH.
I’d like to take this opportunity to say:
Screw the multi-player.
Yeah, I would second that screwing of the Real Money AH.
On the other hand, I absolutely love the Gold AH. Undercut the crap out of the competition and make fake money to buy more crossbows.
*and from a small house in the middle of Somerset, UK, the sound of constant, hysterical laughter can be heard*
Keep it up Blizzard, I’ll just sit back and enjoy the show! Honestly, watching this car crash in motion whilst at the same time people consistently assert Diablo is excellent is like watching people get served shit in a box and somehow that it’s the best shit they’ll ever get.
Last time I witnessed this I was watching an Apple Product video.
Good times, good times.
I knew this was going to happen. Que the same baloney with FIFA 11 and Xboxlive where real money can be made. At the rate we’re goin we’re going to need an authenticator, a dongle, fingerprint machine, and ambient retinal scanner to play games without getting hacked.
That said, the ridiculous profiteering from Activision-Blizzard is something I can’t support. Hope everyone looks at Torchlight 2 instead. Played the beta and it’s fantastic.
