Jumping the Shark Podcast #202

No High Scores Podcast Logo

Brandon and I hopped online last week, talked about industry events, and now it’s live on Teh Internets as JtS #202. First, blame me for the audio problems during the first half of the show. Some technical issues on my end meant having to use my home WiFi rather than a wired connection and my WiFi is, at the moment, jacked. Consequently, I wasn’t coming up clear on Brandon’s line and I messed up the recording on my end, so it starts out rough. Gets better by the half-way point, though, and I’ll get it all sorted before we do the next show. Sorry!

Right, anyway, this week we talk all about digital distribution in a time where ISPs are feeling more and more freedom to throttle, engage in data caps, etc. This leads to a thorough look at the Irrational Studios closure/status quo change and how, er… irrational some of the response has been to it. Enjoy!

Jumping the Shark Podcast #201

No High Scores Podcast Logo

Kicking off the road to 300 has to start somewhere, and in this case it starts with our 201st episode of Jumping the Shark. How about that?

This week Brandon dons his white cloak and hood for some sea-shanty-sing’n goodness in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. We’ve also started playing football the solitaire way with Bill Harris’ Gridiron Solitaire. You know a football game is doing its job when perfectly legit results end in my screaming at the monitor,  just like when I watch the Lions. Finally, the meat of our show is an in-depth and spoiler-ridden dissection of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. There are not enough words in the English language to tell the full story of what makes this such an amazing game, but we do our best.

Come. Join us for another hundred episodes!

Jumping the Shark Podcast #200

No High Scores Podcast Logo

You do a 200th episode with some people and they just vanish, leaving you to tell the world about it. Some people. I know Todd usually does this but I think he’d been eaten by yetis in the frozen wastelands of…uh…wherever he lives. Middlesomeplace, USA?

Whatever.

Hey, we did a show! The 200th show to be exact. Bill was on! We talked a little about Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, some Gone Home, some state of gaming and of course TV Talk. Bill also talked about what he’s been doing now that he’s not playing games. He’s a busy dude.

In all seriousness, thanks so much for sticking with us throughout all of these shows. I’d like to say that we’ve gotten better as we’ve toiled in the mines of podcasting these four long years but I think we’ve just managed to put out shorter shows. Maybe year five will be our breakthrough.

Jumping the Shark Podcast #199

No High Scores Podcast Logo

It’s episode #199 and Brandon and I are here to do two things and two things only: One, have an impromptu discussion about Skyrim and why Brandon should not, under any circumstances, venture back into that world. And, two, break down the first episode of Telltale’s The Walking Dead Season 2. The spoiler lamp is most definitely lit in this one. It’s a giant fiery ball, that reaches to every crack and crevice in the game and exposes its deepest darkest secrets, including which of us has more sympathy for cute four-legged critters. Ye been warned.

Jumping the Shark Podcasts #197 and #198

No High Scores Podcast Logo

Believe it or not, we’ve been recording podcasts. Not that you’d of read about them here, of course. That’s on me. I checked-out over the holidays. It was rather nice, true, but it’d also be cool if you folks who don’t use services like iTunes knew it when we’ve actually, you know, done stuff. So here’s the official JTS catch-up post, covering our two year-ending shows.

Episode #197 (not embedded; just follow the link instead)

It’s our last episode of the year, so Brandon and Todd do it right with Ye Olde Traditional Game of the Year Shenanigans. Hear all about our picks for best and most disappointing titles for the year in gaming that was 2013. On the list in one capacity or another, Gone Home, Fuse, NFS: Most Wanted, God of War: Ascension, Papers Please, Mark of the Ninja, Tomb Raider, Bioshock, Beyond Two Souls, FTL, Fire Emblem: Awakening, GTA V, and XCOM: Enemy Within. You’ll have to tune in, though, to find out what we slotted where.

Episode #198 (embedded below)

Brandon and Todd are here (even if Brandon’s voice isn’t) to talk about their most anticipated games of 2014 as well as Todd’s problems with the Xbox One and NBA2K14 and Brandon’s problems with The Walking Dead Season 2. Yay! Hope and complaints!
